Generally, Clearcover policies will extend to a rental vehicle up to the policy limits and up to 30 days. The vehicle must be rented and driven within a state, territory, or possession of the United States, including Puerto Rico or a province or territory of Canada, and meet the following requirements:
- The vehicle meets the definition of a private passenger auto
- The person renting and driving the vehicle is on the rental contract and insured on the Clearcover policy. An exclusion applies for the use of a non-owned auto without permission from the vehicle owner (the owner is the rental company in this scenario).
If the Clearcover policy is liability-only, we recommend asking the rental car company about its requirements. Additional coverage may need to be purchased through their company.
Vehicle-sharing Programs
A Clearcover policy will not extend to vehicles that a customer lists on Turo for other drivers' use. Comprehensive and Collision Coverage do not apply to a vehicle obtained through a personal vehicle-sharing program, like Turo. We recommend reviewing protection plan options for the vehicle through the personal vehicle-sharing program.
Lastly, note that coverage extending to a rental is not the same as alternate transportation coverage, commonly known as "rental reimbursement."
