Coverage when renting a car

Rental Vehicle Coverage

Generally, Clearcover policies will extend to a rental vehicle up to the policy limits and for up to 30 days.

If your Clearcover policy is liability-only, we recommend asking the rental car company about its requirements. Additional coverage may need to be purchased through their company.

The vehicle must be rented and driven within a state, territory, or possession of the United States (including Puerto Rico) or a province or territory of Canada, and meet the following requirements:

  • The vehicle meets the definition of a private passenger auto.
  • The person renting and driving the vehicle is on the rental contract and insured on the Clearcover policy. An exclusion applies for the use of a non-owned auto without permission from the vehicle owner (in this case, the rental company).

Important for Florida: Comprehensive and Collision coverages will not apply to rental vehicles in Florida, even if the coverage is included on your Clearcover policy.

Vehicle-Sharing Programs

A Clearcover policy will not extend to vehicles a customer lists on Turo for other drivers' use. Comprehensive and Collision Coverage do not apply to a vehicle obtained through a personal vehicle-sharing program, like Turo. We recommend reviewing protection plan options for the vehicle through the personal vehicle-sharing program.
