Divorced/Separated PNI and Spouse Process

Step By Step Process:

  1. Verify if Primary Named Insured & Spouse still reside together in the same household.
    • YES (Live in same household): Proceed to STEP #2
    • NO (Do NOT live in same household): Proceed to STEP #4

  1. Verify and update Marital Status (Divorced/Separated).

  1. Verify payment info on file to ensure it belongs to the Primary Named Insured.

  1. Verify ownership of vehicles, where the vehicles are primarily located, and who will be driving them.

  1. Verify the email on file to ensure it belongs to the Primary Named Insured.

  1. Who are you speaking with?
    • Primary Named Insured: If confirmed to be DIVORCED, ask for divorce decree. Update policy accordingly after verifying documentation. (NO 2-day lag for PNI)
    • Spouse of Primary Named Insured: Update the policy accordingly (APPLY  2-Day LAG for the changes). Offer a rewrite if they meet vehicle ownership underwriting guidelines if they do not have their own policy yet.
      • Refer to AFI if ineligible for new policy.

     7. Verify payment info: If the default payment method doesn’t belong to the Primary Named                       Insured, shut off autopay, & send autopay shut-off confirmation email to the PNI.

Important:

  • The Primary Named Insured will ALWAYS keep the existing/current policy.

  • If we receive the Divorce Decree, we will not required a Proof of Residency to remove the spouse when they are no longer in the household.
  • Refer to the Vehicle Ownership KB for more info on underwriting ownership guidelines.

  • If there is a court order regarding insurance, request proof and submit to UW for review (via Global Support).
  • If there are any remaining underwriting concerns on a policy, submit an underwriting review.
